Opera II Version 5 Launch
03/08/2006

Our market intelligence reports that the installed customer base of Opera II comfortably exceeds the total combined bases of Access Dimensions, Sage MMS, SAP Business One and Microsoft Dynamics Navision. By this measure alone Opera II is without question the most successful product in its space.
With the launch of Opera II Version 5 today, we now seek to build upon this hard fought and enviable stronghold with what I sincerely feel is the strongest and most significant release out of Pegasus in many years.
Indeed, there could not be a more stark comparison between Opera II and its predecessor, Opera, at the same stage of its lifecycle. Six years after its launch, Opera II continues to transform, evolve and persistently raise the bar on ours, our Partners, customers and competitors’ expectations.
It is no overstatement to say that we have never invested more time, effort or resource into a single release of Opera II than we have with this new release. Indeed, Opera II Version 5.00 is the result of over 12 man-years in R&D to deliver:
- Major user interface refit: We have transformed the entire Opera II user experience with a contemporary and fresh new look and feel, including brand new navigation controls. The end result is stunning and pushes Pegasus ahead of the field.
- 50 significant elements of brand new user functionality: Advanced Purchase Order Processing, Payroll History, user definable views in Costing and Payroll, Online Filing Manager In-Year form submissions, major Import improvements and more than 40 more functional improvements across the system. See the Opera II Version 5.00 Guide to Enhancements document on the Partner website for more details.
- Over 1,000 framework and architectural additions, changes and improvements: Spanning the GUI uplift, a brand new installation routine that cuts installation times to a fraction, a move to the latest VFP9 development environment, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 optimisation and several performance, sociability and usability improvements; Opera II Version 5.00 contains more under-the-bonnet enhancements and improvements than any prior release of Opera II.
- SQL Server 2005 Support: Opera II can now run on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as well as 2000, and we’ve spent a great deal of time optimising speed, performance and usability in a number of what were sometimes problematic areas in earlier versions; full utilisation of SQL Server’s Data Transformation and Server Replication services, automation of administrative tasks such as backup, and better integration with other third party SQL Server based applications.
PS Whilst not a new capability in Version 5.00, I would also like to confirm that Opera II Enterprise SQL has always been able to make full use of SQL Server’s inherent data integrity architecture, including transaction roll back/forward and logging, aiding recovery in the event of catastrophic systems failure without having to revert to traditional backups.
- Updates to XRL, PIM, CIS and Operations II: new versions of which will also launch today to support Opera II Version 5.00.
Also integrated with today’s launch is the unveiling of a completely brand new Pegasus website, www.pegasus.co.uk, which has been painstakingly designed to optimise new business lead generation and to raise the profile we give to the Partner network, together with many improvements to enable us to create and then supply more demand and interest in Pegasus solutions directly to you.
